Dynamic midfielder James Akaminko, who spent just five months with Great Olympics before wowing the East African powerhouses, moved to Azam FC in Tanzania last July.

During his formative years, Akaminko also spent a brief time with US Tataouine in Tunisia and played for AshantiGold and Medeama.

In order to find out why he made the transfer and how the player is adjusting to his new surroundings, Ghanasoccernet writer Abdul Musa spoke with the Ghanaian midfielder on a recent trip to Dar es Salam, Tanzania.

"So far, life is nice here, and I thank God for the help from the staff, my teammates, and the coaches,"

The player claims that adjusting takes time, but with help from those around him, he is beginning to comprehend the club's and the nation's overall systems.

He says that when comparing football in Ghana and Tanzania, the NBC Premier League in Tanzania is "stronger and more professional" and that the Ghana Premier League's organisational problems prevent the game from reaching its full potential.

Football is popular in Tanzania because of the infrastructure and high-quality transmission offered by Azam TV, which allows for extensive pre-and post-game research.

All of the teams receive funding from the NBC to help with the implementation of their individual programmes for the forthcoming season.

Despite the fact that Akaminko has only been there for two months, he acknowledges the effort sponsors put forth to ensure the league has adequate funding as well as the popularity of local football in Tanzania, where "the fans have a desire to see their clubs in action," as even stadiums outside of the capital city are consistently packed with supporters of local teams.

Akaminko claims he joined Azam FC wisely and has big expectations for this campaign.
